He was born on 8th April 1983 in Madras ( Present Chennai) Tamil Nadu. He is the second child of his parents, father Allu Aravind and mother Nirmala. His father is a film Producer and his grandfather Allu Ramanlingaiah was the film comedian. His elder brother Venkatesh is a businessman while his younger brother Sirish is an actor.

He acted as a child artist in Vijetha at the age of three and made his debut as an adult in Gangotri in the year 2003. In 2004, he was seen in he Sukumar film, Which was directed by Arya. Similarly he started working in other films like Bunny in 2005, Happy in 2006 and Desamuduru in 2007.

His films like Arya 2, Vedam, Varudu and Badrinath could not do well at box office. In 2015, he appeared in Rudhramadevi for supporting role. Films like Race Gurram (2014), Sarrainodu (2016) and Duvvada Jagannadham (2017)was a successful movie at box office with each earning gross profit of more than Rs 100 crore.

He had worked three times with director Trivikram Srinivas in the movies like, Julayi in 2012, S/O Satyamurthy in 2015 and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo in 2020. All three movies became super hit and earned a gross profit of Rs 262 crore at box office.

He married Sneha Reddy on 6th March 2011. They have two childs, one son and one daughter. His aunt married to Chiranjeevi . Ram Charan, Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej and niharika Konidela are his cousins.

He had received five Filmfare Awards South and three Nandi Awards. He won his first Filmfare Award as the Best Actor for Parugu in 2008. He also won Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Role for Rudhramadevi and Nandi Award for Best Character Actor. In 2004 he received Nandi Special Jury Awards for Arya movie.
