Biography: Born to Ramoji Rao Gaekwad, police contable, and Ramabai, a housewife in Mysore State(Karnataka). He lost his mother at the age of nine. He is the youngest of the four siblings, two brother and a sister. After his father got retired, they moved to Hanumantha Nagar, Bangalore and built a house there.
He did his primary education from Gavipuram Government Kannada Model Primary School and after sixth grade he got enrolled to Acharya Patasala, Bangalore. He was very mischievous as a child and during his schooling he spent a lot of time acting in plays.

After completing his school education, Rajinikanth performed various jobs in Bangalore and Madras. He worked as an office boy, coolie, carpenter and even earned money by loading rice sacks. Later he after passing the exam he got his bus conductor licence. Soon he became very popular among passengers for his style of issuing tickets and returning the change that they wanted to travel only in the bus which had Rajinikanth.
He also used to take part in stage plays and when he came across an advertisement which offered acting courses, he joined Madras Film Institute after his co-worker Raj Bahadur motivated and financially supported him as his family was not supportive. It was when he was in the institute, K Balachander offered him to act in his film, Apoorva Raagangal, 1975. At the beginning of his career, he mostly played short, supporting and negative roles.
Finally in the year 1977, he got the lead role in Telugu film Chilakamma Cheppindi.
