University Grants Commission : Introduce MCQ pattern, Reduce Exam Hours. Universities are considering conducting exams online during this coronavirus outbreak. While University Grants Commission (UGC) advised that the students should be marked based on internal assessments or reducing the duration of the examination to two hours.

Though many are not happy with UGC‘s idea. Venugopal KR, VC, Bangalore University, said that it would not be fair on the students to be assessed based on earlier performances. He further said that one cannot predict one’s potential based internal assessments.

“If the situation permits, we would conduct exams in normal mode where we will create several exam centres across the city and small batches of students will be allowed to appear in shifts,” he said.

“We might also introduce multiple-choice questions (MCQ) pattern for easy conduction and evaluation of answer sheets,” he added.

The Central University of Gujarat (CUG) will tentatively conduct the semester exams in July. The university has been conducting science practical sessions using online stimulated experiments and would use similar methods for exams.
