Mental Health and Tips to Boost Mental Health

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and behavioral well being. Mental health effects how people think,feel and act. It also helps how much we can handle stress. It is important at every stage of life from childhood to adulthood. As we all know mental health problems are common but help is also available. People with mental health issues can get better completely.

Experiencing one or more of the following feelings or behaviour are early signs of mental health problems:
1) Hearing voices with no one around
2) Thinking of self-harm or causing harm to others
3) Overthinking too much
4) Picking fights with everyone without any solid reasons
5) Mood swings becoming too severe affecting relationship
6) No any energy, Being lazy all the time
7) Eating very less
8) Lack of sleep
9) Having pains and aches
10) Feeling hopeless and helpless
11) Smoking, Drinking more than usual
12) Being upset, worried, angry or scared without any reasons and
13) Inability to work.
Below are the following tips to improve mental health problems :-
- Connecting with many people as much as possible as it helps to build a sense of self worth and gives an opportunity to share positive experiences. Take time to be with family and friends
- Being physically active by finding activities to help get fit. Set the goals or challenges and achieve them
- Try learning new skills as it boosts self confidence. Try learning about healthy eating and tips on cooking
- Stay positive and be kind to others. Say thank you if someone has done something for you Spend time with family or friends who are going through a difficult time and need support emotionally. Offer help to someone with their work
- Pay more attention on present moment as it helps improve mental well being (Mindfulness). Mindfulness can help enjoy life more and understand oneself better
- Keep alcohol use to a minimum quantity
- Try meditating, exercise or prayer. It all can improve state of mind and outlook on life
- Love or value oneself. Treat oneself with kindness and respect. Make time for the hobbies. Learn new things
- Take better sleep as sleep is the best way to recharge mind and body. To get better sleep is to take a break from TV, mobile phones and computer in the hours before bedtime instead listen to relaxing music
- Reframe unhelpful thoughts. The way we think, feel and behave are linked. Sometimes we develop patterns of thoughts or behaviours that are unhelpful so recognising them, and taking steps to think about things differently, can improve your mental health and wellbeing
- Write a letter to future you. When you’re feeling good, think about what you would want to tell your future self if things get harder and you find you need more support. Reminding yourself of what’s keeping you feeling positive right now can help you through those more difficult times in the future
- Try some of the tips from Your Mind Plan and write down the ones that helped you, include ideas of how to get started and anything else that you have learnt about yourself.
