Sunil Singh, the accused, was caught after the Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant alerted the police. Sunil was caught after staying at the state guest house for over 12 days.
According to the officials, Sunil had even asked for an appointment with the Chief Minister. He was provided with a personal security officer after he had shown his designation as UP’s Minister of Cooperation.
Later when getting suspicious of his behavior, Sawant alerted the Goa Police and asked the Crime Branch to arrest him.
“He had produced forged letters and e-mails to claim that he was minister in the Uttar Pradesh government,” Sawant told reporters.

Sunil Singh had even met with the Goa Cooperation Minister Govind Gawade and discussed various issues related to the department in the ministerial block last week.
“I was told that he was a state guest and a minister in the UP Cabinet. I didn’t meet him for much time. He was with me for 10 minutes.” Gawade told the media.
“When I went back home, I searched for information on him on the internet but could not find anyone with that name. But I couldn’t follow up the matter, as I was busy in other things,” the minister said, after he got suspicious of his behavior.
Accused even attended a school function in Canacona taluka of South Goa district where he was invited as the chief guest. BJP leader and Goa’s former cooperation minister Prakash Velip was also present at the function.
“We will be seeking help from our UP counterparts in the investigation,” said a Crime Branch official.
