Food crisis in North Korea: Coffee retails over Rs 7,000, Bananas for Rs 3,300 per kg

According to state-run news agency Korean Central Agency, a severe food crisis has hit North Korea very badly. Due to shortage of some food items, its prices have increased rapidly. The country’s supreme leader Kim Jong-Un has called the food situation “tense”. As per the report, the prices of food items have rise up sharply in the country’s capital Pyongyang, where bananas is selling at a price of $45 or Rs 3,335 per kilogram, a packet of black tea for $70 or Rs 5,190 and a packet of coffee for $100 or Rs 7,414.

United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organisation suggests that North Korea is short of 8,60,000 tone of food. As agricultural sector could not do well in grain production plan due to the damage by typhoon last year which led to the food shortage this year and people’s food situation is now getting tense.
